Abstract:

This study contributes to empirical literature concerning the spatial evolution of industrial structure. We use the GIS technology and the deviation range method to analyze the spatial evolution of industrial structure in 11 cities in Hebei province in the year 2002 and 2010. Our empirical analysis indicates four major problems: the industrial layout is too concentrated, the optimization of industrial structure is relatively low, the industrial structure is similar and diseconomies of scale and the industrial structure are similar and diseconomies of scale. Then we give specific recommendations to the above problems. Finally we discuss the implications of our findings for theory and practice and indicate avenues for future research.
