Groundwater acts as a lifeline in the coastal regions to meet out the domestic, drinking, irrigational
and industrial needs. In this scenario 29 shallow coastal groundwater samples were collected and analysed for
major and minor cations. The samples analysed were classified w ith SAR, RSC, TH, CI, IBE, EC and facies
to determine their utility. The geochemical facies of the groundwater was attempted and found that Ca-HCO3
as the dominant type. The factors responsible for their geochemical characterization were also attempted by
using standard plot and it w as found that the ion exchange plays a significant role along with few signatures
of recharge and sea water intrusion.
