Brassica vegetables are subjected to viral, bacterial as well as fungal attack, which causes a high
yield loss. Temperature and moisture conditions, which promote the growth of fungus, are needed to be
studied in order for an effective control of the disease to be estimated. The present review gives a brief account
of the fungal diseases which have been considered responsible for major economic loss to the Brassica crops.
The epidemiological conditions necessary for the occurrence and prevalence of the different types of fungal
diseases studied by different workers have been reviewed and it has been found that an optimum temperature
and high moisture conditions are required for the growth of fungi. The different available control measures that
have been considered effective against the pathogens were investigated and breeding practices was considered
most effective owing to the lack of field trials in the genetic engineering of plants.
Key words: Brassica disease, control measures, disease resistance, epidemiology, fungal attack, mycopathogens,
