This paper aims to determine the impact of domestic energy consumption on exports in Turkey by
using annual data from 1970 to 2006. For this purpose cointegration and Granger causality tests and impulseresponse
functions are applied. According to obtained results there is a significant relationship between
domestic energy consumption and exports in long term. Granger causality test shows there is a unidirectional
causality running from energy consumption to exports. Impulse-response functions indicate that shocks to the
energy consumption have a positive impact on exports. Therefore energy is an important factor for economic
growth in Turkish economy.
