Culture fisheries is multi-faceted and also presents a diverse array of environment ranging from
freshwater to marine and from simple stagnant ponds to high tech computerized closed indoor water
recirculation systems. The industry is therefore, fraught with potential risks and hazards. Risk analysis is now
widely applied in many fields that touch our daily lives. Risk analysis is a process that provides a flexible
framework within which the risks of adverse consequences resulting from a course of action can be evaluated
in a systematic, science-based manner. Governments and the private sector must often make decisions based
on incomplete knowledge and a high degree of uncertainty. Such decisions may have far-reaching social,
environmental and economic consequences. An integrated approach to risk analysis will assist the culture
fisheries sector in reducing risks to successful operations from both internal and external hazards and can
similarly help to protect the environment, society and other resource users from adverse and often unpredicted
impacts. The principles for controlling hazards in Culture fisheries will include the identification of hazard,
control of the hazard and monitoring of the effectiveness of the controls. This paper reviews the risk concept,
general Principles, applications of risk analysis, management of hazards and risks in culture fisheries,
application of risk analysis to culture fisheries and proffered management strategy to reduce or minimize
hazards and risk in culture fisheries.
Key words: Application, concept, culture fisheries, management, principles, risk and hazard,
