Abstract
Due to various reasons, some cable-stayed bridges require the replacement of part or all stay cables after operating for a period of time. In this study, based on some engineering practices of stay cable replacement, the condition of bridge structure before replacement is analyzed with Finite Element Analysis method for plane member system. The theoretical calculations, cable force measurement, replacement methods and process monitoring for cable replacement are introduced to find out the key technical problems. From the specified bridge monitoring practices, we suggest monitoring cable tension and the main beam alignment during the process of cable replacement, to make sure the cable-stayed bridge reaches its design conditions.
